UCLA Online for Tribal Economic Development

I am taking a course Tribal Economic Development and Nation Building online this quarter.

Please click on the link to this page. If you work for a tribe, ask your supervisor if there are funds to pay your tuition. It’s most likely work-related.

Presented in cooperation with the UCLA Native Nations Law and Policy Center, this series of courses is a collaborative initiative to develop, pilot, and implement Tribal Studies curricula in support of Native educational issues and community concerns. Offered fully online, these courses are available not only to regional Native nations in the U.S. and Canada, but also to the surrounding national and worldwide community who have a professional interest in tribal issues.

We offer several courses which specifically focus on Tribal Legal Systems. Presented in cooperation with Project Peacemaker, this developing series summarizes legal issues in the areas of federal, state, and tribal laws that affect American Indian and Alaska Native populations. We are in the process of developing additional courses to include different subject areas.

Students wishing to earn a verification of completion need to complete the following three online core courses:
• Introduction to Tribal Legal Studies (Online)
• Federal Indian Law and Policy (Online)
• Economic Development and Nation Building in Native America (Online)

Additionally, students need to complete one of the following elective courses to be offered during future quarters:
• Violence Against Native Women (Online)
• Protecting Cultural Property in the Bio-Tech Age (Online)
• Preservation of Tribal Cultural Materials in Tribal Collections (Blended)
• Indigenous Cultural Resources Protection in California: Theory and Practice (Online)
• Legal Research, Analysis, and Writing in a Tribal Context (Online)

For a course to be applied to the program, students must earn a grade of C or better.

Send any inquires to online@uclaextension.edu.
